Makaton NZ (keyword signing)
Learn to use basic keyword signs to support your child’s development of communication. Research shows that using signing supports their development of speech and language. Keyword signing is used in homes, educational settings and other environments to ensure your child is getting every opportunity to develop their ability to understand the world around them and express their basic needs and wants.
You will learn how to do basic signs including the alphabet and keywords. You will be able to use basic signs when reading to your child , singing a song, commenting on things you hear and see in their world.
This is appropriate for anyone wanting to start using keyword signing with their child at home, or with a child/children they work with (e.g., early childhood centre).
